President hails Maldivian culture and heritage on National Heritage Day

On the occasion of National Heritage Day, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu highlighted the central role of cultural traditions, history and identity in shaping the nation’s future.
In a post shared on X, he reflected on the significance of Islam, the Dhivehi language, traditional customs, handicrafts, archaeological sites and the country’s long and proud history, describing them as the most valuable treasures of Maldivian heritage.
The President stressed that these elements form a national trust that must be passed on to future generations. He added that fulfilling this responsibility is essential to ensure the survival of the Maldivian nation.
First Lady Sajidha Mohamed also underlined the richness of Maldivian cultural life. She drew attention to the customs, values and everyday practices of the people, pointing to their hardworking, active and friendly character as qualities that define the national identity.
She noted that these qualities, along with the monuments inherited from ancestors, the Dhivehi language and Dhivehi culture, form a heritage that parents are have an obligation to preserve and hand down to their children.
