Male’ City Group of Hospitals has carried out a nationwide outreach programme across four regions, providing specialist care to island communities and performing dozens of life-changing surgeries.

According to the hospital, over 969 patients were seen in consultations and 86 surgeries were successfully completed during the initiative. The outreach camps were held at Addu Equatorial Hospital, Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital, Laamu Atoll Hospital and Ugoofaaru Regional Hospital.

CEO of Male’ City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, said the programme aimed not only to bring doctors to conduct consultations and surgeries, but also to build local capacity. He explained that alongside patient care, training sessions were provided for doctors and nurses based in the regional hospitals, ensuring skills transfer and long-term benefits.

Large numbers of Maldivians continue to travel to Malé for specialist treatment, incurring high expenses and facing long queues at hospitals in the Greater Malé Region. The outreach programme is designed to ease this pressure by delivering essential services to regional hospitals, reducing both travel costs and overcrowding in the capital.

CEO Haleem added that discussions are ongoing to strengthen collaboration with regional hospital management, with the goal of providing additional resources and expanding specialist services. He described the programme as a success, both in improving access to care and in contributing to the development of regional healthcare facilities.
