The President’s Office has announced the closure of the Media Fenda established opposite its premises, following concerns over repeated misuse of the facility and challenges in maintaining orderly operations.
Introduced on 29 May 2025 under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s Administration, Media Fenda was created to give accredited journalists a dedicated space to access official information and report on Government affairs. Access was granted to media outlets formally registered with the Maldives Media Council and in possession of official permits.
In a statement, the President’s Office said that despite these measures, some unauthorised individuals had gained entry to the facility, making it difficult for accredited journalists to carry out their work effectively.
Officials noted that repeated violations within the Green Zone disrupted the intended use of the facility and created difficulties for members of the public accessing services at nearby Government offices.
The President’s Office explained that the Media Fenda had not been operational in recent months and, after a review, it was decided to close the facility from 14 September 2025. The President's Office added that journalists will continue to have access to official information and news events through alternative arrangements.
