The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has begun handing over land plots from Gulhifalhu to recipients under the Government’s Binveriya housing scheme.

According to the ministry, the process of clearing out and identifying individual land plots began on 3 September, with plots transferred to recipients once finalised. Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib confirmed in a post on X that handovers formally commenced on 14 September. He added that plots currently occupied as temporary construction sites will be issued once contractors complete their work.

Changes were earlier made to the Gulhifalhu land-use plan, with plot calculations completed on 30 May. The ministry began issuing registries on 12 July and has so far registered 1,260 applicants. Recipients are required to book appointments through the Hiyaavehi Portal to collect their documents.

The Binveriya Scheme is one of the Government’s flagship housing initiatives, designed to provide residential land plots to Maldivians in need. Officials said the handover process represents a significant milestone in expanding access to housing and ensuring more families have secure property rights.
