President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has departed for the State of Qatar to take part in the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit, scheduled for 15 September 2025 in Doha.

The summit has been convened by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in response to the Israeli attack on Qatar on 9 September. Heads of state and government from across the Islamic world are expected to discuss collective measures to address the situation. President Dr Muizzu is due to deliver a statement reaffirming the Maldives’ solidarity with Qatar and its consistent support for the rights of the Palestinian people.

According to the President’s Office, the summit serves as a platform for member states to strengthen their united voice in calling for an end to violence and for urgent international action to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Ahead of the summit, Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Abdulla Khaleel participated in the preparatory meeting of OIC foreign ministers in Doha on 13 September. In a post on X, he said the discussions focused on possible responses to the attacks on Qatar and Israel’s repeated violations of international law. He added that urgent and decisive measures were needed to safeguard peace in the region and expressed confidence that the summit would result in actionable outcomes.
