President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for stronger representation of women and youth in decision-making in a message to mark the International Day of Democracy.

In a post via X on Monday, the President urged continued dedication to expanding opportunities for women and youth, ensuring that all Maldivian voices are heard and valued at every level of governance.

He also stated that as the world reflects on democratic values, the Maldives stands in solidarity with those still fighting for their rights, particularly the people of Palestine who he said have been denied the fundamental freedom to govern themselves.

The International Day of Democracy is observed annually on 15 September to promote and uphold democratic principles.
