The Boduthakurufaanu North Side Road Development Project in Malé City is progressing steadily, with major construction targets approaching completion, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has announced.
According to MTCC, C-channel installation is 73 per cent complete, anchor block installation stands at 55 per cent, and reclamation work has reached 80 per cent. In addition, 132 metres of sheet piling have already been installed for Segment 1 of the project.
Launched on 21 August 2025, the Government’s MVR 144.5 million initiative aims to modernise one of the capital’s busiest stretches and ease chronic traffic congestion. Once finished, the road will feature four lanes, a stormwater drainage system to prevent flooding, upgraded traffic signage, and a dedicated pedestrian walkway.
The project covers an 830-metre section of Malé’s outer ring road, running from the Local Market to the Hulhumalé Ferry Terminal. Of this, 737 metres will be stabilised with sheet piling and backfilled to create space for the road expansion.
Located in one of Malé’s busiest zones, home to major Government offices, commercial centres, and the city’s main port, the development is scheduled for completion within 455 days. Once complete, it will deliver modern, pedestrian-friendly roads, reduce congestion, and improve connectivity across the capital while enhancing flood resilience during heavy rains.
