Consultation meetings have been held to finalise a new soft loan scheme for content creators in the Maldives, following instructions from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.

The President announced on Sunday that the scheme, expected to open within two weeks, will support a range of creative fields including media content, audio-visual production, entertainment, and sales and marketing content.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed confirmed that discussions were held with stakeholders in content creation, and said the programme will be designed in line with their input as much as possible. He noted that consultations on Monday covered several of the areas highlighted by the President, such as media and audio-visual production.

“This is an important step towards creating business opportunities in these fields,” the Minister said.

President Dr Muizzu has stated that the initiative is aimed at strengthening the creative economy and giving young people more avenues to participate in the sector. The Administration has set a target for creative industries to contribute at least 15 per cent of national GDP by 2030.
