President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has described the Israeli attack on Qatar on 9 September as a crime against humanity and a direct assault on peace.
President Dr Muizzu said the strike was intended to undermine Qatar’s role as a mediator in Gaza and to destabilise the wider region. He condemned the violation of Qatari sovereignty, framing it as part of a broader pattern of Israeli aggression that includes the occupation of Palestinian lands and the targeting of civilians, doctors, and journalists while addressing the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit in Doha on 15 September.
Reaffirming the Maldives’ solidarity with the government and people of Qatar, the President urged that Israeli leaders be held accountable for war crimes through coordinated political, economic, and diplomatic measures. He added that urgent humanitarian aid must be delivered to Gaza and the West Bank, stressing that words alone would not be enough to rebuild lives or halt the violence.
The President also criticised what he called the double standards that shield Israel from accountability, insisting that international law must be applied equally to all states. He reiterated the Maldives’ commitment to stand with Palestine and to advocate for justice and peace through multilateral forums.
The Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit was convened by the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) following the Israeli attack on Qatar. Leaders from across the Islamic world gathered in Doha to demand an immediate end to Israeli hostilities and to press for decisive international measures to restore stability in the region.
