First Lady Sajidha Mohamed urged renewed commitment to protecting children in healthcare systems, describing their safety as not just a responsibility but a privilege and honour on the occasion of World Patient Safety Day.
In a post shared on X, the First Lady called for investments in tailored policies to ensure every child receives safe and secure care from the very start.
The First Lady also inaugurated the Health Establishment Management System (HEMS) at an official ceremony on 17 September 2025. The digital platform consolidates information about licensed healthcare facilities, the services they provide, and the professionals working within them, making it easier for the public to access reliable data.
She also launched the Joint Commission International (JCI) Patient Safety Champions Training Programme, which will train seven frontline workers to uphold international patient safety standards. In addition, JCI announced the introduction of its Patient Safety Pathway in three hospitals, Dharumavantha Hospital, Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), and Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH).
The ceremony, attended by Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim and senior representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), included a panel discussion on the theme “Safe care for every newborn and every child.”
World Patient Safety Day has been observed globally on 17 September since it was established by the World Health Organization in 2019.
