President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has designated Thai Ufuriyaa and Kolhufushi as part of Madifushi's jurisdiction.

The decision, which fulfils a Presidential pledge previously made by the President, was formalised through Presidential Decree No. 24/2025. Issued under the Decentralisation Act, the decree empowers the President to determine boundaries for city and island councils within administrative areas.

This latest change forms part of the Government’s ongoing efforts to allocate islands and lagoons to administrative areas in order to facilitate future development. In line with this policy, Maafaru Lagoon was also recently designated as part of Alifu Alifu Feridhoo.
