The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has prohibited motorised vessels from entering Hulhumalé Channel Park, effective today.

HDC had announced the decision earlier this week, and from today the channel that links Hulhumalé Phase 1 and Phase 2 is officially closed to vehicles with engines.

The channel is a popular spot for sea sports such as jet skiing and is also the site of ongoing coral rehabilitation efforts. HDC stated that the ban was introduced to ensure the safety of users and to support the revitalisation of corals in the area.

The Coral Garden Project, launched in July 2025 within Hulhumalé Channel Park, is a key initiative aimed at restoring marine ecosystems in the channel.
