President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government will begin reclaiming 12 hectares of land in Vaavu Felidhoo early next year, with the project to be included in the 2026 state budget.

Speaking to residents on Friday during his visit to the island, the President said the reclamation is a key commitment made to the people of Felidhoo. He explained that while the project had been postponed this year in order to prioritise the development of the island’s hospital, it will move forward next year as the most important project for the community. The President noted that the reclamation will expand available land and create new opportunities for residents to undertake vital development work.

The President also highlighted the new Fitness and Recreation Centre, for which the agreement was signed on Friday. He described it as a state-of-the-art indoor sports complex that will accommodate a variety of sports under one roof and provide modern facilities for the entire community.

He further announced that work will begin this year on a four-storey school building with 14 classrooms. Administrative preparations have already been completed, and the project is now at the stage of commencing physical construction.

In addition, the President said the Government will ensure that Felidhoo has a sustainable sea ambulance service as part of its policy to expand emergency medical access across the atolls.
