Speaker of the Parliament Abdul Raheem Abdulla has paid a courtesy call on Pakistan’s Acting President Yousuf Raza Gilani, focusing on enhancing bilateral relations and legislative co-operation between the two nations.

During the meeting, Speaker Abdul Raheem expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s continued support to the Maldives in education, health, and trade, as well as in the development of the People’s Majlis, highlighting that the Parliament building itself remains a symbol of the enduring friendship between the two countries.

The discussion also explored opportunities for future collaboration and deeper engagement between the legislatures of the Maldives and Pakistan.

The Speaker condemned the ongoing violence in Gaza, conveying the sorrow and solidarity of the Maldivian people over the humanitarian crisis.

Concluding the visit, he thanked the government of Pakistan for its warm hospitality and reaffirmed the strong cultural and religious bonds that unite the Maldives and Pakistan, emphasising shared goals of peace, development, and unity across the Muslim world.
