Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has praised President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tireless efforts to swiftly address issues causing difficulties for citizens, affirming that the Government will continue to implement its pledges regardless of political criticism.

In a post on X, the minister dismissed claims that initiatives such as expanding ATM services across the islands, introducing identity card services in every atoll, and enhancing other essential public services might be considered as routine initiatives. He underlined that these policies represent meaningful progress in improving daily life for Maldivians and reiterated the Administration’s determination to work relentlessly to ease public hardships.

Minister Saeed highlighted a series of recent initiatives, including the introduction of Government-operated optical stores, the expansion of air ambulance services, the establishment of additional dialysis centres, and the import of 23 essential commodities at regulated prices. He said these measures were designed to bring tangible benefits to the public and emphasised that efforts to characterise them as routine would not deter the government from advancing their delivery at pace.

The minister contrasted the current Administration’s priorities with policies of the previous government, pointing to delays in major infrastructure projects and decisions such as permitting vape sales and lowering cigarette prices. He said these measures stood in clear contrast to President Dr Muizzu’s focus on strengthening essential services and responding to the needs of the public.

Reaffirming the Government’s position, Minister Saeed stressed that the expansion of ATM services across the islands would continue irrespective of political debate, noting that while some may view the initiative as unremarkable, many citizens value the convenience it brings to their daily lives.
