President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that land reclamation in Faafu Bileiydhoo will be carried out as part of the island’s harbour development project.

Speaking with residents during his visit to the island, the President said the harbour upgrade will be given special priority and implemented in line with the community’s needs. He added that the project will include reclaiming land from the lagoon to the fullest extent possible, describing it as one of the most important initiatives to be included in the 2026 budget.

“We will add as much land as we can to the island. MTCC will only leave once the work is fully complete,” the President said.

He assured that all projects handed over to ministries and state-owned companies will move ahead at full speed, with further development for Bileiydhoo under consideration in next year’s budget.

During the visit, several new projects were inaugurated, including the construction of a Fitness and Recreation Centre, an extension to the health centre, a new police station building, and the upgrade of the harbour. ATM services were also introduced on the island, with the President noting that expanding access to ATMs nationwide is a priority, as the lack of such services forces residents to spend unnecessarily when travelling to other islands.
