President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the planned causeway linking Thaa Kin’bidhoo and Veymandoo will deliver significant economic benefits to both islands and the wider atoll.

Speaking during a community meeting in Kin’bidhoo, the President reaffirmed his pledge to make the project a reality, noting that expressions of interest opened on the 22nd of this month and have already attracted potential investors. He confirmed that the causeway will be developed under a contractor-finance model as part of an Integrated Tourism Project, which is expected to generate jobs and strengthen the island’s population base.

The President also revealed that an investor has committed to opening a resort in the atoll before the end of next year. In addition, the Government plans to utilise 25 hectares of dredged land in Kin’bidhoo for new initiatives, including housing developments and coastal protection measures.

Highlighting broader infrastructure goals, President Dr Muizzu detailed plans to build a youth centre, a police station, and new roads, while accelerating the upgrade of the island’s health centre in collaboration with the contractor already awarded the project.

Sports facilities will also receive a major boost. The football field will be fenced and fitted with lighting, the stairway and changing rooms will be refurbished, and the stadium will be enhanced to accommodate handball matches. These works are scheduled to commence within the next two months.
