The Government has contracted Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to build a causeway linking Thaa Dhiyamigili, Madifushi and Ufuriyaa.

The signing took place in Dhiyamigili during President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s tour of inhabited islands across four atolls.

The contract was signed by Minister of State for Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Hassan Rasheed on behalf of the Government, while MTCC Managing Director Ahmed Saudee signed for the company. The project, to be completed within 18 months, aims to improve connectivity between the three islands and enhance opportunities for local economic and social development.

The initiative follows the 18 September decision to place Ufuriyaa and Kolhufushi under the jurisdiction of Madifushi Council. The Government stressed that assigning uninhabited islands to local councils is a key policy priority aimed at strengthening their financial and economic autonomy.
