President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the first decompression chamber outside the capital will be established in Thaa Guraidhoo, a significant step in expanding specialist health services across the Maldives.

Speaking to the Guraidhoo community, the President stated that the Guraidhoo facility will be inaugurated on Friday and pledged that additional decompression chambers will be installed in Malé City, Addu City, Fuvahmulah City, Villingili, Rasdhoo and Thinadhoo in the next four months. He explained that the initiative forms part of the Government’s goal to ensure equitable access to vital medical services for communities across the country.

Alongside this, the President announced that MRI services will be introduced in all tertiary hospitals that currently lack such facilities within six months. He further pledged that advanced dental care units will be established in 15 atoll hospitals within four months, strengthening secondary-level services outside the capital.

Highlighting the Government’s commitment to decentralisation, President Dr Muizzu said these measures are aimed at reducing dependency on Malé for essential healthcare and ensuring that people can access quality treatment closer to their homes.
