The Badminton Association of Maldives has regained clearance to compete internationally after the Badminton World Federation (BWF) lifted its suspension.

The Maldives Olympic Committee (MOC) announced that Maldivian athletes will now be able to participate in international events until 26 December 2025. This includes the Asian Youth Games, scheduled to be held in Bahrain this October.

According to the international federation, the decision was made to encourage ongoing reform efforts within the Badminton Association of Maldives, including the drafting of a revised constitution, the scheduling of an Extraordinary General Meeting, and the holding of fresh elections.

The association was suspended on 16 May 2025, after sport authorities in the Maldives replaced its elected leadership with an interim committee. The suspension was imposed to safeguard the association’s autonomy.

Commenting on the latest decision, MOC President Mohamed Abdul Sattar stated the move is an important step for Maldivian athletes who have been striving to compete on international platforms. He added that the move would support efforts to strengthen and restructure the Badminton Association, ensuring long-term international opportunities for athletes.
