President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that Thimarafushi Health Centre will be upgraded to a Level 4 facility within three months, providing residents with advanced services closer to home. He also assured that work on developing the island’s hospital will be fast-tracked to meet modern healthcare needs.

Speaking during his visit to the island, the final stop in his tour of four atolls, President Dr Muizzu highlighted broader development commitments alongside health. He said the expansion of Thimarafushi harbour and completion of modern road development would ease transport challenges and support the island’s growth.

In housing, the President revealed that water, electricity and sewerage services will soon be connected to existing units before Ramadan. He added that the down payment for housing will be reduced to MVR 10,000 and announced plans to build 100 additional units under the 2026 budget.

The President also pledged investment in youth and sports, with budget allocations to enhance the football stadium, develop a Fitness and Recreation Centre, and upgrade the island’s youth centre.

Further commitments included starting passport and ID card issuance in Thimarafushi from November and handing over the island’s waste management project to WAMCO.
