Minister of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib said the final list of recipients will remain unchanged except for those confirmed to be ineligible.

The Minister said this in response to rumours that the Government plans to sell some of the 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriya scheme.

Speaking on the matter, the Minister said the final list of 4,000 flat recipients was publicised by the previous administration on 15 November 2023. He added that the Government proceeded in line with that announcement, and only individuals confirmed to be ineligible will be removed.

The Minister stated that the list is final and cannot be altered, noting that no one has been added outside the gazetted process. He said agreements are being signed only with those confirmed as eligible, and there is no opportunity to insert new names.

The ACC previously suspended the allocation process after determining that nearly 70 per cent of listed applicants were ineligible. In response, the Government formed a special committee, which reviewed 4,939 applications and ruled that 2,180 people did not qualify.

With the list now finalised, the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) has begun signing agreements with recipients. As of 15 September, over 3,000 people had signed agreements, while about 600 had paid security deposits. FDC has also started handing over keys to completed units.
