President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has said the skating arena planned for Malé will deliver wide-ranging athletic and community benefits, describing it as an important step for youth development and social well-being. 

In a statement on X, the President noted that the arena will create opportunities for Maldivian skaters to progress on the global stage and welcomed the roller-skating and skateboarding community to the initiative.

The remarks came following President Dr Muizzu attending the groundbreaking ceremony of the new skating arena at Usfasgandu on 2 October. The project will feature a roller-skating track and skateboard park, designed as the country’s first permanent facility for skating sports. The ground was broken by Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu, with Commissioner of Sports Mohamed Tholal and senior ministry officials in attendance.

The ceremony also drew a large turnout of skaters, who showcased their skills alongside representatives from groups actively promoting skating in the Maldives. President Dr Muizzu spent time with the skating community, observing performances and emphasising his Administration’s commitment to expanding sports infrastructure nationwide.
