President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that development projects in Alifu Dhaalu Fenfushi will continue in line with the expectations of the island’s residents.

He made the remarks while meeting residents of the island during his ongoing tour of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.

The President highlighted several projects that commenced during his visit, along with upgrades to existing initiatives and new projects planned for the island, all reflecting the needs voiced by the community.

Speaking about the shore protection project, for which practical works began during his visit, the President said the development will include a quay wall as requested by residents. Similarly, the President stated that the new mosque being constructed on the island will include facilities for funeral services.

He also discussed the health centre extension project, for which practical works commenced during the visit. The project will establish a new two-storey facility to replace the current health centre, providing a fully equipped, modern space designed to meet the island’s healthcare needs.

The President reaffirmed that all other ongoing and new projects will align with the expectations of the people. He noted that the football ground development will include night lighting to allow residents to use the facility in the evenings.

On educational facilities, President Dr Muizzu explained that work on the school project, which had been progressing slowly, has now been handed over to a State-owned company that has mobilised to resume construction at full speed. The project is expected to be completed before the next academic year, with the 2026 State Budget set to include funding for a multipurpose hall.

Turning to utilities, the President described the island’s sewerage system as one of Fenfushi’s most pressing concerns. He said the project, contracted to a private company, has seen little progress despite no payment delays from the Government, adding that the Administration is considering reassigning it to another party. The President assured residents that the issue will be resolved and pointed to the successful resolution of a similar water supply problem through the Maldives Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC).
