President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to introduce a nationwide initiative aimed at restoring the traditional values of mutual respect and unity among Maldivians.
The announcement was made during his visit to Alif Dhaalu Mahibadhoo as part of his ongoing tour of inhabited islands in South Ari Atoll.
Addressing the community, the President noted that Maldivians have historically upheld strong values of respect, compassion, and harmony. However, he expressed concern that these values have diminished in recent years amid growing political polarisation.
He stated that true national development requires not only economic and infrastructural progress but also the strengthening of social bonds and civic values. As part of this effort, the Government will launch a nationwide Respect Project, aimed at promoting kindness, unity, and understanding within communities.
The President urged all citizens, institutions, and political parties to participate actively in the initiative, stressing that its success depends on collective engagement. He expressed confidence that the people of the Maldives would come together to revive the principles that have long defined the nation’s identity.
