President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the airport in Bileiyfahi will be completed and operational within 30 months. The project, contracted to Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), will include the reclamation of 36 hectares of land, expected to be finished within eight months. The airport will feature a 1,500-metre runway and all necessary facilities.

Addressing residents, the President highlighted other key development projects on the island. Water and sewerage systems will be upgraded by MWSC, while MTCC will resolve harbour issues and soil erosion, with permanent solutions expected by the end of February.

Education and healthcare will also see significant improvements. Bileiyfahi School will expand from four to twelve classrooms, and the health centre will be upgraded to a full-fledged facility offering 16-hour service, with additional wards, doctors’ rooms, and staff.

The President added that a modern mosque will be constructed this month, and sports facilities, including a football field, handball, and volleyball courts, will be developed in stages, with funding allocated in the upcoming budget.

President Dr Muizzu emphasised that these projects are crucial for the island’s long-term development and will proceed without delay.
