President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the Government is preparing to resume the development of waste management centres in 20 islands across the northern atolls, including Shaviyani Feevah.
He revealed that the projects, previously contracted to a private company through foreign funding, had been on hold for an extended period due to administrative delays within the Ministry. The President confirmed that arrangements are now underway to restart the projects after a prolonged standstill.
President Dr Muizzu also addressed challenges concerning the utilisation of leased land on the island, assuring that the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) will continue developing the school and lagoon area as part of Feevah’s broader infrastructure plan.
In addition, the President announced that the construction of a new police station in Feevah will be included in next year’s national budget. He added that the existing contract for the waste management centre would be terminated and reassigned to another contractor to ensure timely completion.
Highlighting ongoing community development efforts, President Dr Muizzu noted that he had laid the foundation for a Fitness and Recreation Centre on Feevah following discussions with the Island Council in February 2024. Responding to the council’s requests, he stated that construction of a new school building commenced today, underscoring the Administration’s continued commitment to improving local facilities and services.
