President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled a series of development projects for Shaviyani Foakaidhoo, reaffirming major pledges made to the island’s residents.
Addressing the community, President Dr Muizzu provided updates on projects tied to commitments made during his presidential campaign. He emphasised that the initiatives aim to deliver tangible improvements across infrastructure, healthcare, education, and youth development.
As part of his visit, the President witnessed the formalisation of an agreement to modernise Foakaidhoo’s roads, fulfilling his promise to resolve long-standing infrastructure challenges. He also confirmed that a resident doctor will be appointed to the island’s Health Centre, with plans to upgrade the facility next year.
In line with the administration’s focus on youth empowerment, President Dr Muizzu announced the construction of a futsal pitch and handball court. He also revealed that new premises for the island’s school will be developed next year, with funding to be allocated in the 2026 national budget, alongside proposed housing schemes.
Several other development efforts were inaugurated during the visit. These included the commencement of the Waste and Resource Management Centre, a project initially proposed by the Foakaidhoo Island Council in 2024. Additionally, the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with developing a beach access area for both local and tourist use, as well as implementing erosion control and shore protection works.
Work also commenced on a new Police Station and an Islamic Centre, further demonstrating the government’s commitment to strengthening essential services and community facilities in Foakaidhoo.
