President outlines major development plans for Komandoo

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reaffirmed that Shaviyani Komandoo Airport development will proceed without interruption, with land reclamation and construction progressing on schedule. 

The Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has been tasked with completing the project, which includes reclaiming 48.8 hectares of land, constructing a bund wall within two months, and opening the airport within 30 months.

During his visit to Komandoo, the President also announced that a 50-unit housing project will begin early next year, included in the upcoming state budget. Additional plans for the island include launching dialysis services this year, renovating schools, and commencing construction of an indoor sports complex in 2026.

Once the water and sewerage systems are completed, the road development project will also move forward, alongside the establishment of a new police station and council office. The Government is working to connect Komandoo and Mathi Komandoo with essential infrastructure, including electricity and water supply.

Highlighting broader regional initiatives, the President noted that lagoon plots in Fushifaru and Gonafaru have been opened for development, and a company has been contracted to develop a resort in Kudalhaimendhoo. He emphasised the importance of expanding
