A new 30-tonne ice plant has been formally inaugurated in Shaviyani Funadhoo by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s as part of his ongoing visit to the Atoll.

The ice plant has the capacity to produce 30 tonnes of ice per day and can store up to 50 tonnes daily, providing a significant boost to the local fishing industry.

The Government has emphasised that the initiative aims to ease the difficulties faced by fishermen in obtaining ice. By establishing ice plants across the country, the project is expected to reduce both the cost of ice and fuel for fishermen, improving efficiency and supporting livelihoods in the sector.
