A cargo vessel named Nasru sank while en route from Malé to Lhaviyani Atoll Naifaru today.

According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), all five crew members onboard were safely rescued and transferred to a Coast Guard vessel. The crew included two Maldivians and three foreign nationals.

Authorities have urged vessels in the surrounding area to navigate with caution, warning that floating cargo and debris from the sunken vessel could pose hazards.

The incident occurred amid ongoing rough weather conditions across the Maldives, with the Maldives Meteorological Service advising seafarers to exercise heightened vigilance while travelling at sea.
