This year’s assembly is being held under the theme “Reshaping Global Health: A Shared Responsibility.”

The World Health Assembly, which is scheduled to continue until May 23, serves as the highest decision-making body of the WHO and brings together representatives from 194 member states to discuss global health priorities and policies.

According to the agenda of this year’s assembly, discussions will focus on strengthening health systems, emergency preparedness, universal health coverage, primary healthcare and the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases. Deliberations are also expected on antimicrobial resistance, digital health, artificial intelligence standards in healthcare, climate change-related health impacts and mental health.

The Maldivian delegation is also expected to hold meetings with representatives of other countries and international organisations during the assembly to discuss cooperation and partnerships in the health sector.
