President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has concluded his visit to Shaviyani Atoll after travelling to 14 inhabited islands, meeting with residents, councils and Women’s Development Committees to address local development priorities as part of his pledge to directly engage with island communities across the country.

During the visit, the President inaugurated several projects and announced major budgetary commitments. These included the opening of the first fisheries ice plant in Funadhoo, new ATM services, road upgrades, water and sewerage services and airport developments. He further pledged that MVR 500 million each will be allocated for health and education in the 2026 State Budget, with a focus on expanding inclusive classrooms, vocational training, and strengthening healthcare in regional facilities.

Accompanied by cabinet ministers and State-owned enterprise executives, the President also reviewed progress on infrastructure, housing and employment initiatives. He pledged to accelerate work on stalled waste management centres in northern islands, expand the creative economy, and introduce modern financial platforms such as PayPal to support Maldivians and businesses.

The visit concluded with the President assuring island communities that the Administration will remain committed to advancing equitable development across all sectors while addressing their pressing challenges.
