Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla has assured that the Parliament will continue to extend its full support to the Government in carrying out its responsibilities effectively.
He made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony held in Fonadhoo, Laamu Atoll, as part of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s visit to the island.
Addressing the gathering, the Speaker highlighted the Government’s achievements to date, noting that one of its greatest successes has been managing the nation’s finances responsibly and continuing key development efforts without facing bankruptcy.
He stated that the Government is submitting important bills aimed at advancing national development and improving public welfare, and assured that Parliament will not delay in passing such legislation.
He also welcomed the Government’s decision to develop Fonadhoo as an urban centre, describing the newly signed projects as the largest and most transformative initiatives undertaken on the island to date.
The agreements signed during the ceremony include the construction of the Maldives National University (MNU) campus and language school in Fonadhoo, an office complex, the third phase of harbour and road development, dredging and beach protection works, and the development and operation of Kadhdhoo Airport. The project to establish a sports complex in Fonadhoo was also officially handed over.
The Speaker concluded by expressing confidence that the projects would bring major improvements to Fonadhoo and said residents are eagerly awaiting their completion and inauguration.
