State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced that work to upgrade the power system of the 50-megawatt powerhouse in Hulhumalé will be carried out on Saturday.

STELCO stated that the powerhouse will be temporarily shut down from 3:00 a.m. until 8:00 a.m. to facilitate the work.

The company noted that there is a possibility of power interruptions in some areas if electricity demand exceeds available generation capacity while the work is underway. However, STELCO said the work has been scheduled during a period when electricity consumption is usually at its lowest in order to minimise disruptions to customers.

STELCO also said efforts are being made to complete the work ahead of schedule if conditions allow.

The company stated that the upgrade will enable additional generation feed into the Hulhumalé powerhouse and further improve the reliability and modernisation of electricity services provided to customers in the Greater Malé Region.

STELCO apologised for any inconvenience caused to the public while the work is carried out.
