Yellow Alert issued from Baa Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll

The Maldives Meteorological Service (MET Office) has issued a Yellow alert for the area stretching from Baa Atoll to Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, valid from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.

The MET Office warned that winds in the affected areas are expected to reach between 25 and 30 miles per hour, with rough seas and gusts of up to 45 miles per hour during showers.

Earlier today, a Yellow Alert was also issued for the area from Baa Atoll to Alif Alifu Atoll, which was in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

MET's 24-hour forecast shows that thundershowers are expected across parts of the north and central regions of the country, with heavy rainfall anticipated in some areas. Winds are forecast to blow from the southwest and west at between 13 and 23 miles per hour in the north and central atolls, and between 10 and 20 miles per hour in the southern atolls. Cloudy conditions are expected, with gusts of up to 40 miles per hour possible.

The highest rainfall recorded in the past 24 hours was at Alifu Alifu Thoddoo, where 143.9 mm of rain was recorded. The second highest was recorded at Noonu Maafaru, with 66.9 mm.

Seas are expected to remain rough across the north and central regions of the country. The MET Office has accordingly issued a travel advisory, urging the public to exercise caution.
