President Dr Mohamed Muizzu speaking to residents of Laamu Dhan'bidhoo

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured residents of Laamu Dhan’bidhoo that long-standing sewerage service issues on the island will be resolved.

Speaking at the community meeting during his ongoing tour of Laamu Atoll, the President said that one of the agreements signed during his visit involves the development of roads, which will also address the sewerage system, a major concern highlighted by the Island Council in earlier discussions. He noted that extensive research will be carried out with relevant agencies following his visit, after which road development works will commence once the sewerage issues are resolved.

The President also stated that although adverse weather conditions prevented the official inauguration of several planned projects, the Bank of Maldives (BML) ATM services on the island have now commenced. Additionally, practical works have begun on the development of a Police Station and Health Centre extension, which will include new wards, a nurse station, and a laboratory.

The President further announced that practical works on a 500-capacity mosque will commence this year, while volleyball and handball court developments are also set to begin. The construction of a multipurpose hall will be included in the next State Budget, and studies are underway to resolve harbour-related issues. He also noted that Fenaka Corporation will provide an additional generator to address electricity challenges on the island.

Highlighting that healthcare remains one of the Government’s top priorities, President Dr Muizzu reiterated his Administration’s commitment to introducing sea ambulance services nationwide, assuring that Dhan’bidhoo residents will also benefit from the initiative.

Concluding his remarks, the President affirmed that the planned developments will be realised, emphasising that it is the Government’s responsibility to deliver on its promises to the people.
