The Maldives has strongly condemned the preliminary approval by the Israeli Knesset of two draft laws seeking to impose Israeli sovereignty over the Occupied West Bank and legitimise control over illegal settlements.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldives described the move as a “dangerous escalation”and a clear violation of international law that further threatens prospects for peace in the region. The Government called on the international community to take urgent and decisive action to halt these measures, protect the rights of the Palestinian people, and hold Israel accountable for violations committed in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Reaffirming its unwavering support for Palestine, the Maldivian Government reiterated its commitment to the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. The statement underscored that the Maldives will continue to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and advocate for their legitimate right to self-determination.
