Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has underscored the vital role of the construction industry in driving the Maldives’ tourism sector.
He made the remarks while speaking at the Maldives National Association for Construction Industries (MNACI)’s 24th Annual Member Forum.
Minister Saeed noted that the Government is closely engaging with the construction industry and has incorporated several of MNACI’s proposals into recent policy publications.
He highlighted that the construction sector’s revenue is primarily generated through Public Sector Infrastructure Programme (PSIP) projects and investments linked to the tourism industry. He added that the Maldives’ economic growth is closely tied to the combined progress of both sectors.
The Minister further highlighted the Government’s amendments to the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Act, aimed at attracting large-scale investments. Under the revised framework, projects worth USD 500 million are planned to enhance healthcare services, strengthen food security, and expand tourism opportunities supported by a strong construction base.
The event also celebrated the launch of MNACI’s 25th Anniversary Campaign.
