The Government has forecast a 6.6 per cent increase in total revenue next year, with MVR 31.3 billion expected to be collected in taxes and no changes proposed to the state’s income policy. The projection was announced by Minister of Finance Moosa Zameer while presenting the proposed 2026 State budget to the People’s Majlis.
According to the Minister, the State anticipates MVR 8.7 billion in non-tax income and MVR 373.6 million in grant aid, bringing the total estimated revenue to MVR 40.3 billion by the end of 2026. He highlighted that the completion and full operation of the new Velana International Airport terminal, along with ongoing regional airport upgrades, are expected to drive tourism growth and generate MVR 2.3 billion in airport development fees.
He added that although no new taxes or rate adjustments are planned, the Government will introduce amendments to tax laws to enhance enforcement and improve revenue collection.
