Male’ City Group of Hospitals has announced plans to launch general practice (GP) clinics in multiple areas of the city by the first quarter of next year. The initiative aims to ease the growing demand for medical consultations at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Dharumavantha Hospital.

CEO of Male’ City Group of Hospitals, Ibrahim Abdul Razzaq Haleem, revealed that discussions are ongoing with government ministries regarding the locations and budget for these clinics. So far, it has been decided to establish clinics in Henveiru, Maafannu, and Galolhu within Male’ City, with additional clinics planned for Hulhumale’ Phase 1 and 2.

This decision was made in response to the increasing number of people seeking healthcare services. IGMH records show more than 150,000 visits annually for emergency care, general practice, and general illnesses. The outpatient department (OPD) consultations alone reached 240,000 last year. Similarly, Hulhumale’ Hospital has seen over 238,000 patient visits annually.

The proposed GP clinics will provide primary healthcare services, allowing patients to consult general practitioners. If specialist care is required, the clinics will facilitate referrals and further arrangements.

While these clinics are in development, a GP clinic operated by Hulhumale’ Hospital is already functional at Hulhumale’ Phase II Hiyaa Tower 16. The upcoming clinics aim to reduce waiting times and improve access to primary healthcare across the city.

This expansion is a step towards addressing the city's growing healthcare needs, with the government and healthcare authorities collaborating closely to implement the project.
