President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has reiterated his commitment to completing all major development projects that are of significance to the people of Fuvahmulah City, encompassing healthcare, housing, infrastructure, and economic development.

Addressing residents of the city, the President highlighted that the tertiary hospital project, funded through assistance from the Saudi Fund, is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by May or June next year. While the full-scale hospital is still under development, several essential medical services have already commenced. CT scan services are operational, equipment for mammography has been prepared, and work is ongoing to introduce MRI facilities and a decompression chamber. Additional space is also being prepared to accommodate the expanding range of services, ensuring the hospital delivers high-quality healthcare as pledged.

On housing, President Dr Muizzu noted that alongside the 400 housing units currently under development, a further 75 units signed on the same day form part of housing development in Fuvahmulah. Plans are also in place to initiate the construction of 500 more units within the next two years.

The President emphasised the importance of the new office complex being developed in the city, describing it as a key project that would streamline service delivery by centralising various government offices currently dispersed across different locations.

In the area of infrastructure, he underscored the significance of the harbour expansion project, which will be connected to the existing harbour to address long-standing port congestion challenges. The development of the Islamic Centre was also identified as a priority, given its importance to the local community.

Turning to tourism, the President observed that the ongoing development of eco-tourism and city hotel projects will create direct economic benefits for residents and strengthen Fuvahmulah’s growing tourism sector. He also noted that the construction of a modern sports complex represents a significant step towards advancing sports development in the city.

With the completion of the third phase of road development, all roads in Fuvahmulah are expected to be upgraded. The upcoming national budget includes provisions for a Waqf building and a synthetic track, the latter to be financed through an Indian loan.

To improve the city’s power supply, the President revealed that efforts are underway to bring in an additional 1.2-megawatt genset. He further noted that Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) is set to begin modernisation works on the Fuvahmulah airport terminal in the near future.

President Dr Muizzu reaffirmed that his Administration remains dedicated to fulfilling all pledges made to the people of Fuvahmulah City, ensuring that every project aligns with their development priorities.
