President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that the salaries of State employees will not be reduced under the newly introduced uniform pay framework.

Speaking to Fuvahmulah City residents, the President explained that the revised pay framework aims to bring fairness and consistency across State employment while improving the financial wellbeing of government workers.

He highlighted that following the amendments, the salaries of over 20,000 civil and judicial service employees have already been increased. Employees who have not yet transitioned to the harmonised structure are expected to see their pay rise next year.

The adjustments will not only boost employees’ income but also enhance their capacity to save, thereby improving their overall quality of life. The new framework ensures that even those earning the minimum wage will now receive a basic monthly salary of MVR 7,000.

President Dr Muizzu further stated that the revision of basic salaries would strengthen the Employees’ Pension Fund by increasing both contributions and retirement savings. Legislative amendments to the Pension Fund Act are also being considered to provide greater long-term benefits.

He added that the issue of the 10 per cent cap on extra hours has been resolved under the new framework, addressing a long-standing concern among staff.

The President concluded by noting that the changes are the result of thorough research and analysis, and reaffirmed that no employee would be disadvantaged by the transition to the standardised pay structure.
