President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to begin practical works on the Hithadhoo-Hulhudhoo-Meedhoo Link Bridge Project next year.

Speaking to residents of Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, the President said a consultancy agreement for the project has been signed. The six-month agreement, valued at USD 1 million and signed in October, covers the design phase of the bridge, which is expected to be completed between March and April next year. He added that the Government will select one of three proposed designs, with practical works expected to commence thereafter.

President Dr Muizzu noted that the project is progressing as an official Government initiative and that updates can be sought from members of Parliament, councils, or the relevant ministry.

The President stated that, as several key services have historically been shared between the two islands, the health centre currently being upgraded will be developed into a 30-bed, state-of-the-art hospital serving both Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.

He also noted that the construction of a new building for Seenu Atoll School, for which an agreement was signed on the same day, will bring major improvements to the school.

Additionally, President Dr Muizzu highlighted that Shangri-La Resort in Addu Atoll is on track to reopen by the end of the year, noting that extensive efforts have been made to resume operations. He said the reopening will create new employment opportunities for youth across Addu Atoll.
