President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the administrative separation of Seenu Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo from Addu City signals the beginning of a new chapter in the development of the two islands. He made the remarks while addressing residents during his official visit to Seenu Atoll.
Speaking to residents, the President emphasised that the decision to separate the islands was made through a public vote, describing it as a step towards ensuring that essential municipal and residency services are delivered more efficiently and closer to the people. He reiterated his Administration’s pledge to resolve the long-standing challenges faced by the two communities, framing the move as an act of equality and inclusion rather than division.
President Dr Muizzu further assured that Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Addu City will be given equal priority in upcoming national development initiatives, covering sectors such as health, education, employment, and infrastructure. He noted that preliminary work has already begun to expand key public services in both islands.
The visit is part of the President’s tour of the southern islands, during which he is engaging with local councils, women’s development committees, and community members to discuss development priorities and future plans.
