The Ministry of Health has formalised agreements for 31 health facility development projects worth MVR 352 million - a major milestone in strengthening the Maldives’ healthcare infrastructure and expanding access to quality medical services across the atolls.

The agreement formalisation ceremony, held at Barceló, was attended by President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Cabinet Ministers, Members of Parliament, and senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Health, and other Government institutions.

The projects, funded under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP), involve the construction, upgrading, and expansion of hospitals and health centres across multiple islands.

Key projects include the upgrading of Laamu Maavah Health Centre and Gaafu Alifu Kolamaafushi Health Centre, as well as the construction of Laamu Isdhoo Kalaidhoo Hospital, among others.

Contracts were awarded to several local construction firms, including Optima Holding Pvt Ltd, FEDO Pvt Ltd, LMA Investment, Ensis Group Pvt Ltd, Swift Engineering Pvt Ltd, S&A Investment Pvt Ltd, A. Man Maldives Pvt Ltd, I M Construction Pvt Ltd, and Salsabeel Investment Pvt Ltd.

President Dr Muizzu has previously stated that healthcare remains the Government’s highest priority in the 2026 State Budget. He emphasised his Administration’s goal of strengthening local healthcare services to reduce the need for Maldivians to seek medical treatment abroad.

The Ministry said these projects reaffirm the Government’s commitment to building an equitable, modern, and community-focused healthcare system accessible to all citizens.
