President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced plans to allot 15,000 housing plots from Rasmalé.

Speaking at the Republic Day ceremony, the President described housing as the most pressing social issue faced by Maldivians and reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to addressing it comprehensively.

The President highlighted that Rasmalé is the largest land reclamation project ever undertaken in the Maldives. He noted that while reclamation work is already ongoing, the pace of the project will triple starting next month to accelerate progress. Housing allocations from Rasmalé will be based on a family housing concept, with priority given to the most deserving applicants.

President Dr Muizzu also provided updates on other major reclamation initiatives. He announced that land reclamation of the remaining area in Hulhumalé Phase III began on Monday, while the agreement for the remaining reclamation works in Giraavaru Falhu was signed the same day, with physical works set to begin later this month. Additionally, reclamation at Uthuru Thilafalhu is scheduled to commence within the month.

In addition to the land plots, the President said that agreements for 3,000 new housing units will be signed in the coming days. He announced a further 4,000 units to be developed under India’s Line of Credit, bringing the total number of housing units to 7,000 once all projects commence.

President Dr Muizzu reiterated his Administration’s commitment to ensure that every Maldivian aged 18 and above will have access to housing, with further details to be announced in the coming days.
