President confident Judiciary will resolve pending cases, reaffirms commitment to justice

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has expressed full confidence that the judiciary will ensure the timely resolution of all pending cases within the legal process. He made the remarks during his address to the nation on the occasion of this year’s Republic Day.

Highlighting the importance of judicial efficiency, the President noted that ending the issue of prelonged pre-trial detention had been a key presidential pledge and that the Government has already taken necessary steps in this regard. He confirmed that the judiciary’s budget has been allocated to support the resolution of such matters.

President Dr Muizzu emphasised that his Administration remains committed to upholding judicial independence and ensuring that all decisions are made within the judiciary. While amendments to the legal framework are planned, the President assured that the Government would fully support them. He also reaffirmed the Administration’s dedication to establishing effective checks and balances within the judiciary and legislative system.

Reflecting on the 57 years since the Maldives became a republic, the President stressed the importance of safeguarding the rights of citizens. He stated that his Administration is committed to promoting responsible, fair, and just governance, and that justice must be delivered in its truest sense.
