The Fertility Care Trust Fund has disbursed MVR 7.13 million for in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments as of October 2025, according to data from the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
NSPA statistics show that the trust fund disbursed MVR 4.78 million for IVF treatments last year alone. As of October this year, 93 patients have received financial assistance for IVF procedures, with 23 successful pregnancies recorded so far.
The Fertility Care Trust Fund was established under Aasandha, the national health insurance scheme, to support couples experiencing infertility. The initiative was introduced as part of a presidential pledge to make fertility treatments more accessible and affordable for Maldivians.
Applications for IVF support were first opened in March 2024, and treatments are carried out at approved local and overseas facilities partnered with Aasandha. The programme covers a significant portion of the treatment costs, including medical procedures, consultations, and related expenses.
