Minister of Homeland Security, Labour and Technology Ali Ihusaan has stated that the Government’s digital transformation efforts aim to improve public services and create new opportunities for future generations.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the Asia Media Summit 2026, the minister said the summit serves as an important platform for regional cooperation, recognition and progress. He noted that in an era shaped by digital connectivity, artificial intelligence and instant communication, countries cannot move forward in isolation.

Minister Ihusaan further stated that the future of media and technology must be built on cooperation, learning and trust among countries in the region. Referring to this year’s summit theme, “'Maldives 2.0 - From Tradition to Tech” the minister said the initiative reflects a broader vision of achieving digital transformation while preserving national identity, values and cultural heritage.

He highlighted ongoing Government efforts under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu to modernise governance, expand digital public services and strengthen technology infrastructure. The minister said rapid progress is being made under the “Maldives 2.0” initiative to modernise public institutions and introduce smarter public services nationwide.

He further stated that the Government will continue investing in digital connectivity and technology infrastructure to bridge gaps between islands and communities.

More than 300 delegates are participating in the summit, with around 80 per cent attending from overseas. The event, taking place from June 11 to 14, includes eight plenary sessions and a high-level ministerial discussion on public media policies.
